The panel discussion on the future of load testing was comprised of:
- RedLine13 Co-Founder and Architect Rich Friedman
- Merck Automation Engineer Eldad Uzman
- SQALogic Founder David Milette
The panelists discussed whether it will be easier or harder in the future, what has changed and what they think we may say in the future.
What will look different in the future
David talked about the trend towards performance engineering vs. performance testing. He talked about the increased complexity in the future with microservices and systems that talk with a third party system. The panel talked about AI and machine learning and how they can help on the one hand and make it more complex on the other. Eldad jumped in on the complexity and made the following statement.
You need to forecast how your production will look like in three, four or five months. You’re going to have play Nostradamus now to forecast the future.
Eldad Uzman, Merck
Questions for Everyone
The panelists didn’t answer all of the questions and asked the audience questions to think about in their own environment. For example, Rich posed this question:
How does load testing really integrate into production? How am I looking and comparing the results to what is happening in prod?
Rich Friedman, RedLine13
“The Marshmallow is Performance Testing”
The funniest moment of the discussion, was probably when Eldad talked about an experiment that is done with competing groups building the tallest tower with sticks, duct tape and a marshmallow. Watch the 30 minute recording and learn why the marshmallow is performance testing.
