Load Testing Q&A

RedLine13: You just renewed your RedLine13 subscription for another year. How is it going?

Christian Nguyen: It’s going great. RedLine13 has become our main load generation tool. We are using it a lot. We have scripts for API testing and simulating browser usage. And we have also done tests replicating 50K concurrent users and planning to increase even more. Next we are going to use the integration of Jenkins + Redline13 + JMeter.

RL13: We have seen JMeter become so popular. How has your JMeter experience been?

Christian: We use JMeter for basically all of our load API testing. So we don’t elaborate complex scripts and don’t use  any special plugins.

RL13: You’ve been running 50K concurrent user tests. What are the costs of the tests? Is it worth the investment?

Christian: The costs are under 10USD for ~1h duration test. Indeed, it has been worth the investment.

RL13: Can you talk more about your upcoming automation with Jenkins + LoadTesting?

Christian: Our goal is to integrate all kinds of testing into the current CI (Continuous Integration) flow. So, for load testing, we are starting with the Redline13 JMeter build Jenkins step with the RedLine13 Jenkins plugin.  So far, it looks promising.

RL13: Your scripts for API testing – are you using RedLine13? Or JMeter tests?

Christian: 4 – All our scripts are based on JMeter. We upload them to the RedLine13 platform, and generate more load from there.

RL13: Can you talk more about how you simulate Browser Usage? What tools do you use?

Christian: For some test cases we play around with the User Agent request header to simulate users connecting from different browsers.

Thanks Christian for taking the time to be part of our load testing Q&A.
